CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS TO WATCH

“Accountable Communities” (PLCs) meet weekly to create common lessons, benchmarks, and common formative assessments.

Departments have Implemented Standards for Mathematical Practices in all math classes: GATE science, GATE social studies, Accelerated Math

Varied instructional strategies: AVID, Socratic Seminars, Cornell Notes, structured group work, peer tutoring, manipulatives and other research-based instructional strategies have been implemented school wide with an emphasis on literacy in all disciplines.

Varied elective offerings such as: AVID, Junior Doctor Academy, art design, 3D design, robotics, engineering, Spanish, music, journalism/yearbook, drama, etc., are offered.

Intervention is provided for struggling students through the Student Achievement Center offering targeted intervention before and after school. English Language Learners are pulled for small group instruction and one-to one tutoring. In addition, co-taught classes in English and math allow students greater support.

Parent University training assists parents in supporting their students. GED and Citizenship classes are offered to parents on campus. Parents participate in a variety of policy, governance committees as well as school activities.

Teachers contribute to district Teaching Channel providing modeling of effective instructional practices such as Socratic Seminar. Teachers also benefit from attending conferences, visiting other schools, professional reading groups, and administrative walkthroughs which provide feedback.

A PLUS teacher is assigned to each department to facilitate teachers conducting peer observations within their own department and across the campus.
