Replicable Practices
Standards Based Feedback/grading - Students receive feedback/grades marking their progress and proficiency on essential standards for each course, rather than traditional A-F letter grades.
Student Led Antiracism Movement (SLAM!) - Approximately 50 students meet weekly to work and learn together to increase their racial consciousness and plan activities to support equitable and inclusive practices across our school.
All School Read - Each year each all students in our school read the same book during special reading sessions scheduled throughout a two-week period, concluding with a visit by the All School Read author.
Advisory - Students meet weekly in small advisory classes (15:1 student to teacher ratio) to explore and discuss social and emotional learning competencies and concepts, focusing on topics such as social justice, digital citizenship, shared problem solving, and academic check-ins.
Bell Schedule - The dynamic Kent Middle School bell schedule features a rotation of periods that ensures that class periods meet at different times each day, while also preserving 25 minutes after lunch for 'Study Session' for intervention, reteaching, extension, and work completion.
