Jose Quintero is an exceptional 8th-grade math teacher whose compassion, high expectations, and innovative instruction make a lasting difference in students’ lives. His classroom blends rigor with warmth, creating a space where students feel safe, supported, and motivated to achieve at high levels. As a first-generation college graduate and the son of immigrant parents, he deeply understands the challenges many of his students face and works tirelessly to help them overcome obstacles and believe in their potential.

His results reflect that commitment. In 2024-25, 37% of his students met or exceeded state standards in math, matching the statewide average—an impressive accomplishment in a high-poverty, multilingual community. The year prior, that same group showed a 13-point gain from 7th to 8th grade. Similar growth has occurred year after year, demonstrating the consistent impact of his instruction.

Beyond the classroom, Jose serves as 8th-grade lead teacher, analyzes data to guide improvement, and provides after-school tutoring several days a week. He also created and teaches accordion and robotics electives, supports students with high school applications, and remains a visible, encouraging presence at school events.

By connecting math to real-world issues—such as environmental projects and hands-on performance tasks—Jose makes learning meaningful and relevant. His patience, respect, and steady encouragement empower students to take risks, grow in confidence, and see themselves as capable scholars and leaders.
